From the Principal

Welcome to our newsletter as we tick past the midway mark of Term 2.

So much has happened already this term – we have successfully completed the NAPLAN, the Year 8 students have demonstrated they are more than up to the theme of ‘challenge’ – they have accepted and enjoyed the challenge of an adventurous camp in the Kurth Kiln Regional Park in Gembrook, and we have had some outstanding VCE music and drama performances. The Year 10 students have completed work experience – whether live or virtual, and the Year 9 students have completed their Morrisby testing and interviews. Our music students are also off on camp this week refining their skills in preparation for an amazing showcase at the mid-year concerts.

Unfortunately we are in lockdown again and will begin learning from home from Monday the 31 May to Thursday June 3. Information about our remote learning plan has been communicated to students and families on Compass. Please keep an eye out for any further updates throughout next week and get in touch with staff if you require assistance. We look forward to seeing everyone back onsite next week.

We did it! Let's start building

We are incredibly excited about the allocation of $8.01 million capital works funding in the 2021/22 State Budget. I would like to extend a big thank you to our Masterplan Working Group – Liza Grage-Perry, James Thyer, Toni Bloodworth, Lea Campbell, Danielle Langston and Antony DiMase, with assistance from Gaby Chapman, Klarissa Pfisterer and Dave Oakley, who have worked tirelessly over the past year to progress things. The support of School Council and the broader school community has also been a tremendous help to secure the funding.

The school collaborated effectively with our local State Member for Northcote, Kat Theophanous MP, who has been a great advocate for improved education facilities in the electorate. We also extend our thank to Kat and her office.

This funding will enable us to build a three storey building, centrally located with new STEM – based and general classrooms and a new canteen.  Things are moving very quickly already, with several planning meetings this week.  I will provide a regular update in the newsletter.

Coming up

Keep reading to find out further details about plans for the General Achievement Test day, which will include our Subject Expo in the afternoon and evening. This day will provide students and families with the opportunity to explore the courses on offer as they move into the process of selecting subjects for 2022.  We are also looking ahead to Year 11 Exams.

Until next time, best wishes,

Sue Harrap
