SCIENCE

In 2021, Science students enjoyed the exciting and innovative world of science through a series of hands-on activities and experiments. During state COVID lockdown and school closures they engaged in a range of simple at-home experiments, and observations of the natural world.

Science week:

National Science Week 2021 fell between 13th – 21st of August and we were fortunate enough to be able to celebrate Science Week at school with a range of activities including daily Science Trivia questions, and the Science Week Photo Competition. We had over 70 outstanding scientific themed photographic entries, from both students and staff. The winners were Mr. Steve Scott (staff), Elita Chrisafis and Jade Butler

Big Science Competition:

The Big Science Competition was held this year at KSC with over 60 participants, fourteen of which achieved Credits, Distinctions, and Higher Distinctions. An amazing effort!

Science Olympiad competition:

The Junior Science Olympiad competition was held, with generous sponsorship from Burra Foods (for which we are very grateful). Riley Sendek, Will Fairle, Will Roberts and Declan Beech have achieved excellent Science Olympiad results. Declan has been selected to continue in a further Science Olympiads program, with a view to being a member of next year’s Australian Junior Science Olympiads Team. Only 50 children across Australia were chosen for this opportunity.

Like Minds science fair:

The Like Minds Science Fair provides an opportunity for students to apply scientific method to conduct independent research on a topic of their interest. Students’ final presentations consisted of a written scientific report displaying the results of their research and/or experiment, a short 2-minute oral presentation, and an interview by Science Fair Judges.
