DESIGN & TECHNOLOGY

2021 continued, to some degree, where 2020 left off. Despite the interruptions this year, students studying Design and Technology subjects at Korumburra Secondary College gained some great skills and experiences, while creating some fantastic products along the way.

Throughout the middle years, students were provided with the opportunity to design and create products focussing on their personal needs or for their loved ones. Some of the products produced included mobile phone organisers and aluminium key and pet tags at Year 7, while the Year 8s created an array of different products exploring their creativity and working with different mediums. Students in Year 9 and 10 created handmade wooden puzzles and some amazing ornamental wooden boxes for mothers, siblings and relatives. Other products produced included small stools and tables, however this was one of those projects affected by this year’s lockdowns.

At the senior end of the school, Unit 1 & 2 Design and Technology students created unique seats for their stools, allowing students to display their individual characteristics and flair in their final piece. Another project undertaken from this group was the Well Being seat that now resides at the front of the school. This group of students designed and produced all aspects of the seat which was constructed from both new and recycled materials. These experiences have provided them with experiences that they can carry with them into their Unit 3 & 4 studies next year. Speaking of our final year students, the array of products produced here were diverse, from modular desks, to storage units, to external seat/storage solutions.  There were some fantastic final pieces created.

Again, the Design and Technology team would like to thank all of the Korumburra Secondary College students for their enthusiasm, cooperation and creativity this year. Their perseverance and adaptability to the changes, once again effecting this year, to their learning in the Design and Technology classes has been amazing.

Bring on 2022 so that we can continue to explore even more new ideas, create new experiences and make some wonderful products.
