MMC STUDENTS STAR IN FILM FESTIVAL

We are excited to announce that our senior students who attend the Mary MacKillop Centre and Alumni producers are Finalists in the Focus on Ability Short Film Festival, a global festival that encourages the community to become more aware of the ability of people living with a disability - and you can vote for them!

Last year, Emily Clarke (Year 12 Thu Duc), Holly Picknoll (Year 12 Trinity), Julian Miller (Carden), Lewis Swan (Carden), Marco Smuts (Year 12 Thu Duc), Mikayla Smith (Year 12 Trinity), Pierce Longamore (Thu Duc), Thomas Byrne (Year 12 Trinity) and Tom Casey-Trinder (Thu Duc) were stars in a film by The Periscope Crew's Ben Pieters (Class of 2018), Dylan Maynard (Class of 2016) and James Cockman (Class of 2019), supported by Emma Cockman (nee Hamilton, Class of 1986 and parent of James). The film focussed on the Mary MacKillop Centre's Outdoor Learning Program where senior students attend a bush camp in Term 4, similar to the Year 9 Camp.

The camp, designed by the staff in the Mary MacKillop Centre, along with Mr Paul Delane (Head of Outdoor Education) and Mr Duncan Picknoll (parent of Holly and Senior Lecturer and Program Coordinator of Outdoor Education at The University of Western Australia), is designed to teach independence, perseverance and friendship - amongst other qualities.

This year's Focus on Ability Short Film Festival has finalists from 19 countries, making this a truly worldwide competition.

Also featured in this Festival is The Brewing of a Man - a story focussing on how  Lewis Swan (Class of 2021), who lives with autism, has navigated through some fears and now works at Fiebre Coffee owned by two Sacred Heart families: the Castillo Burgess and Varricchio families. This film was produced and edited by Millie Kolomyjec (Class of 2021 Cultural Captain).

These two films epitomise Sacred Heart's Core Values of Compassion, Courage and Respect and our motto of Always Striving Upwards.

Voting for the People's Choice Awards is now open until Tuesday 30 August. To vote, simply follow the links below, click 'Vote Now' and enter then verify your email address. As the two films are in different categories, you can vote for both.

Good luck to our film stars!
