YEAR 12 TWILIGHT RETREAT

On Thursday of this week, the Year 12s finally had the opportunity to celebrate a mini-retreat. This opportunity for faith formation is a very important part of the Year 12 program, allowing students to explore their own faith and consider some of life's deepest questions in a safe and supportive environment.

The students spent time with three great saints, looking at what they could learn from them about creating space for God and then bringing their own light to others.

St Charles de Foucauld, a very recent Saint, spent much of his life in the desert working and caring for the Islamic people of the Sahara Desert and encouraged students to find space for solitude and quiet in their own lives. Thomas Merton, the famous monastic writer, encouraged students to go deeper into themselves with the aid of scripture, pondering what God might be saying to them about their own lives. Lastly, a Russian Orthodox saint, Mother Maria of Paris, who helped children escape the Nazi occupation by smuggling them out of the city in rubbish bins, encouraged students to explore new ways of living their faith and vocation, no matter where they find themselves.

The day concluded with a wonderful Mass celebrated by Father Francis. Thank you to all staff and students who attended and assisted at the Twilight Retreat. May we all live more closely to the Gospel in our words and interactions, inspired by the great saints and by those with whom we share our lives.
