Mr Leo Di Gregorio

It is hard to believe that we are now well into the second half of Term 3. Our Year 12 students are nearing the finishing stages of secondary education as they complete their final assessments. During this important time, I know that our community will join me in keeping them in our prayers and send best wishes as they approach their last weeks of Secondary school.

YEAR 12 RETREAT

We were pleased that yesterday our Year 12 students were given the opportunity to participate in a voluntary Twilight Retreat and that 60 students and 14 staff were present for this special occasion.  The Retreat had a strong focus on our personal relationship with our God and challenged students to make a positive difference to the world, particularly after graduating from the College.

As you would recall, many of the College activities in Term 1, including the Year 12 Retreat, were cancelled. The College has traditionally recognised the Retreat as a highlight of the final year of schooling for students and this feeling is constantly echoed from students’ parents and caregivers in our end of year, Year 12 Parent Satisfaction Survey.

I thank all students for participating wholeheartedly in the Retreat. I would also like to thank our Campus Minister, Mr Chris Kan; Assistant Deputy Principal – Year 12, Mr Tony Budas; Deputy Principal - Dean of College, Mrs Sandra Manning; Year 12 Pastoral Care Group teachers; and all staff involved who ensured that this event was memorable and valuable.

DAFFODIL DAY

As we are often reminded, each of us knows someone whose life has been impacted by cancer. This week our Social Justice team marked Daffodil Day 2022 by selling daffodils in the Kiss n Ride this morning and selling out in record time. The Year 12s also held a giant cake stall to raise funds today and our Social Club hosted a staff morning tea on Wednesday for all to donate to this worthy cause. Thank you, students and staff, for your involvement and for giving hope for the future.

BARLOW HOUSE FEAST DAY - SISTERS AND BROTHERS AS ONE

On Wednesday, our Barlow staff and students celebrated Barlow Feast Day. Barlow House is named after RNDM Sisters Shelley and Madeleine Barlow. Sr Shelley and Sr Madeleine taught at Sacred Heart in its early days and were instrumental, together with the other Sisters and staff, in developing the beautiful RNDM charism that continues strongly in the school today. The Sisters' family was also highly influential in the purchase of the land on which the College sits today. Both messages from the Sisters were sent to staff and students who were part of the celebrations of Barlow House on Wednesday. The messages are available HERE.

2023 CAPTAINS

This week our Year 11 students and staff are voting for the 2023 Year 12 Captain positions. It is exciting to see so many students nominating for the various leadership roles for next year. Over the next two weeks the top voted students will be interviewed and then appointments to each position will be made. Best wishes to everyone who has applied to be a College Captain next year. The 2023 Year 12 Leadership team will be announced to the College community at the Whole School Assembly in Week 9.

CLASS OF 2002 - 20 YEAR REUNION

Last Saturday the College hosted the Class of 2002, 20 Year Reunion. It was fantastic that approximately 60 students toured the College and saw the physical changes that have developed since their graduation. The RNDM Performing Arts Centre, Café, English and Media Rooms, Koort Centre with adjacent landscape, Observatory and the very new Technologies buildings were all built after 2002.  We look forward to the Class of 1992, College 30 Year Reunion on Saturday 17 September.

FATHERS' NIGHT

Tonight, we will host our dads at a Fathers’ Night in The Hywood Room.  This is a wonderful opportunity for fathers of the College, across all year groups, to meet, build community and friendship and generally get to know each other a little better. I look forward to spending time with our fathers tonight and thank Liza Baskovich, Parent Engagement Coordinator, and our P&F for organising this occasion.

TOURNAMENT OF MINDS (TOM)

Finally, tomorrow our students are involved in the Tournament of Mind (TOM) competition at Edith Cowan University in Joondalup. It is impressive to see that so many students are involved in this event and we wish all teams success and look forward to hearing the outcomes.

God Bless,
