STAFF PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT

Last week, thanks to the enthusiasm and support of our Deputy of Teaching and Learning, Mrs Susan Carrick, Sacred Heart College hosted a two day Professional Learning Workshop with a focus on Gifted and Talented Education for teachers from a number of schools. The sessions were presented by a well-known and informative presenter, Kylie Bice. Much of Kylie’s advice was focused on social and emotional needs of gifted, identification, twice-exceptional students, as well as planning differentiated curriculum and assessments for all student levels.

We had eight of our senior level teachers attend. Last year, five of our teachers also went through the training. Unfortunately, most undergraduate teaching courses only spend an hour in four years preparing teachers to deal with the needs of the top 10 percent of the students, so it is fabulous that the College is prepared to up-skill our staff on a regular basis in such a diverse range of areas.
