NAIDOC WEEK - YEAR 7 POSTER COMPETITION

Australia has a proud history of getting up, standing up, and showing up, as do our First Nations peoples who have the oldest, continuing, living culture dating back some 65,000 years; however, it is disappointing that, the constitutional recognition of First Nations Australians is yet to become a reality, let alone it being 55 years since Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islanders were first counted in the Australian census and formally recognised as citizens. The 1967 Referendum remains a testament to what Australians can do, (in the words of the 2022 NAIDOC Week theme), when they “Get Up! Stand Up! Show Up!” 2023 looms as another potential milestone on the road to reconciliation in 21st Century Australia.

Since 2010, Sacred Heart College has developed a strong NAIDOC Week tradition and our students were very fortunate to have many great opportunities for cultural connection provided across Monday 8 August - Friday 12 August 2022 (Week 4) by our new Aboriginal Liaison Officer, Miss Sasha Wells (pictured), including the Humanities Learning Area’s 2022 NAIDOC Week Year 7 Poster Competition. The College staff look forward to working with Miss Wells in the months and years to come, but would also like to pay our heartfelt thanks to Sasha’s predecessor, Ms Jodie Hunter.

On behalf of Miss Wells and the Humanities Learning Area, it is my great pleasure to announce the Year 7 winners of the 2022 NAIDOC Week Poster Competition who have received an Event Cinema voucher for their wonderful efforts displayed below.
