On Friday 30 April, all students attended the Duncan McKinnon Athletics Reserve in Murrumbeena to kick off the 2021 House Athletics Carnival. We were lucky that it was a perfect sunny day for the event.
House spirits were high as the staggered buses arrived filled with students in red (Tullow), blue (Kildare), yellow (Delany) and, of course, green (Brigid), all piling into the grandstand and grassed areas.
The day started with the Class of 2021 proudly running in with their coloured costumes for their final hoorah, whilst House captains were presented with the House Cloaks for the first time ever. These were designed by our very own students at the College.
The level of participation throughout the day was outstanding and walking around and seeing the smiling faces left, right and centre, summed up the day perfectly! There were activities for absolutely everyone, whether it was field events like triple jump, shot put or javelin or track events like the 100m sprint or the lengthy 1500m run. Whichever it was, every student who participated contributed to the overall tally for their House, bringing out the competitive spirit amongst the whole school, but still cheering on classmates in their incredible effort, no matter which team they were in.
Not only did taking part in the events throughout the day win you points for your House, the top students for each event, in each year level were also asked to represent the College at the SCSA Athletics on Friday 14 May. We wish these girls the best of luck and we have faith that they will bring us home another win!
With the events and the day coming to a close, all of the Houses gathered for one final activity, one which every girl in the school, no matter what, has no choice but to participate in! It is the most competitive event of them all....the House chants! Along the track, Brigid blasted their House chant, followed by a hungry Delany, then a competitive Kildare, and finishing off with their fierce chant was Tullow. This was the last chance for the teams to gain House points before the final announcement of the overall winner for the day was presented by Ms Smyth. Facing all of the students, Ms Smyth starts “...Delany.... Kildare…. Tullow” and then amongst the roar of the girls in Brigid house, we heard "Brigid", announcing our very first win during our time here at the College. All the girls were so excited and you are the ones we want to thank for our amazing win this year. The energy throughout every team was incredible and we thank all of the teachers for working hard to ensure the day ran along smoothly.
Our last House Athletics Carnival at the College went off with a bang and we are so proud of everyone, especially you girls in green.
GO BRIGID!!!!!!

New School Records
With the perfect weather conditions it was great to see four records broken on the day.
An awesome achievement girls. Well done!
Fastest 100
Due to the massive number of participants this year we unfortunately did not have time to complete the walk or fastest 100 race. We look forward to seeing State Champion walker Emily Smith at the SCSA Carnival and congratulate Year 7 student Mia McLean on running the fastest 100m time of the day, a very sharp 13.07. Amazing effort, Mia!!
The House Cross Country will take place at Karkarook Park in Heatherton on Tuesday 25 May. All Years 7 and 8 students will participate in this event. The run is optional for students in Years 9 to 12. We would like you to encourage your daughters to participate in this event.
On Tuesday 4 May, 30 students competed in the SCSA Badminton tournament at MSAC. The schools were Mater Christi, Santa Maria, OLMC and Ave Maria.
Each of the Kilbreda teams made it through to the semi finals. The confidence and game tactics in all three teams definitely improved throughout the day. The Juniors lost the semi final game by 10 points to Mater Christi. The Senior team went on the play in the Grand Final against Mater Christi and defeated them by 40 points!

There are 38 students who have signed up to be a part of the Cross Country training squad for 2021. The first session was last Thursday morning where we had 21 runners complete the 3.5 km course to the Parkdale Yacht Club and back to Kilbreda.
We are looking forward to the next five weeks of training to encourage as many students as possible to run in the squad, improve their level of fitness and compete in the SCSA Cross Country team on 15 June at Yarra Bend.
If your daughter is interested in being part of this squad could you please encourage them to email us so that we can add them to the list.
See the training schedule document for more information.

Congratulations to the following students who have participated in the AFL Auskick umpiring at Marvel Stadium last weekend for the Collingwood vs North Melbourne game Sian Francis, Elke Madlener and Elizabeth Pound.
The girls attended the game with Mr Sean Wogan and their families. They enjoyed the experience of meeting the Auskick kids, running out onto Marvel Stadium and using their learnt umpiring skills in their own modified field to control the game.
All of the girls are looking forward to the next game that the AFL Auskick offers KIlbreda.
Following on from the SCSA Swimming Carnival in Term 1, Kilbreda had four students selected to represent our sporting association, SCSA, at the Victorian Schools Association Competition at MSAC on Monday 10 May. The event was held between all the independent school associations across Victoria and was a very strong competition.
Congratulations to Kate Golby, Mia Hayden, Emily Roberts and Chloe Joughin who were selected.
