Art Competition

Charlotte, APHS Innovative Pathways Program Student, was the winner of the recent Youth Recognition Awards Art Competition held by the Onkaparinga Council on Monday 27 March.

For the second year running, a Youth Recognition Awards Art Competition was held attracting over 20 submissions from young people with their art speaking to Mental Health, Climate Change and Access and Inclusion. Charlotte’s art expresses how chronic illness impacts her mental health. Charlotte now has a personal mentorship with Carly Snoswell, a Youth Arts Officer, to put together her own SALA Exhibition later this year.

Youth Worker of the Year

Staff members Deb Coad, Jo Dean and Matt Peters were nominated in the Onkaparinga Youth Recognition Awards under the Youth Worker of the Year category.

The ceremony was held at the Port Noarlunga Arts Centre with Mayor Moira Were presenting the nominees with a framed certificate. Matt Peters won the overall award for Youth Worker of the Year for his outstanding commitment to assisting and helping young people. Matt joined Aberfoyle Park High School in 2020 as Pastoral Care Worker (PCW). He is a huge support for students particularly for young boys at risk. Matt runs Breakfast Club Monday and Friday mornings and a games session at lunchtime. He has great relationships with students and is well-respected at school and the local community.

Deb and Jo were similarly recognised for their commitment and never give up attitude when helping our young people at Aberfoyle Park High School, and we are very lucky to have three such committed staff members working with our students.
