Stage 1 & 2

Legal Studies

Matt Froese, Teacher

On Wednesday 5 April the Stage 1 and 2 Legal Studies class attended the Adelaide Law Courts to see the legal system in action. They observed a diverse range of matters including bail applications, assault charges and drug trials, learning not only about the formal processes by which these matters were resolved, but also the empathy with which the Judges and Magistrates made their decisions.

In one courtroom the students were addressed by the sitting Magistrate, some bravely stood up and answered questions about their studies, and in turn posed their own questions about the proceedings they had observed.

Students learned a lot throughout the day, particularly about the practical application of the law to real-life circumstances.
