VISUAL ART

ARTISTS OF THE WEEK

Congratulations to Kevin C of 5ST, Olivia H and Leah D of 6JK on being artists of the week with their wonderful renderings of Hokusia's "The Great Wave off Kanagawa". These works were created on cardboard offcuts, with the background painted and the waves made out of plasticene. Well done to all the grade 5s and 6s, and especially to these three who are justifiably very proud of their work.

HOLIDAY SUGGESTIONS

Looking for something to do here in Melbourne during the school holidays?  Get along to the NGV! At the St Kilda Road gallery the French Impressionist exhibition is on, featuring works from the Boston Art Museum. At the Ian Potter gallery in Federation Square it is the exhibition of Australian Impressionist works. These two exhibitions make a nice counterpoint to each other as the Australian artists were influenced by the French artists. It's probably a bit too much to take them both in on one day, but you could do one each week instead! A heads up that grades F - 4 will be doing works based on French Impressionism next term, and the grades 5 and 6 on Australian Impressionism. The NGV is right up there as one of the most visited galleries in the world. They do a great job in presenting the works for display in ways that are engaging for children. I'm sure you won't be disappointed!

THANK YOU!

Thank  you to those families who have donated Melways to the art room. Special thanks to the connections of the Maclean family who have provided several copies for us. I expect to begin using them with the grades 1 and 2 next term, after lockdown curtailed our program a bit this term.

Regards,

Mrs H
