From the Foundation Classrooms
Term 2 - Our Sustainable World Expo
During the term, Foundation students have acted and thought like Scientists and investigated the following:
- The conditions required to sustain living things
- How changing seasons impact on living things
- Sustainable actions to care for the environment
We have learnt about the concept of Sustainability and have considered how we can care for our local environment. Tasks completed this term to further develop our understanding of what it means to be sustainable have included growing vegetables, observing and measuring changes in the vegetables grown, identifying and using sustainable actions and practising using our senses to learn about our environment.
This term’s Rich Assessment Task (RAT) comprised of four areas:
- sharing a photo of their backyard or an outside area
- creating a 2D collage using natural/non-natural materials
- describing their garden using their senses (I See, I Touch, I Smell, I Hear, I Taste)
- writing/drawing two ways they can sustain their garden
- writing/drawing two things that help their garden to survive
Our Foundation ‘Scientists’ were assessed using a ‘Our Sustainable World’ rubric which included Biological Science and Earth Science. Ms Lowe and the other Foundation grade made up our audience when we presented and shared the RAT.
