Principal

Our school is located on the land of the Wurundjeri people of the Kulin Nation.

A celebration of learning

This week our students have been sharing their work with each other. I had the opportunity to hear all about the learning in our Foundation classes this term. Students shared their Sustainability learning and were most proud of the use of the iPad to upload their garden collage and add voice recordings.

It was interesting to hear about the compost experiment our Year 1/2 students began at the start of term. Each class buried a collection of items and this week dug it up to see what did and did not compost.

Each morning this week I have been greeted by Year 3/4 students carrying their dioramas, each filled with an environment for an endangered animal. I have learnt a lot about a variety of animals this week.

In our Year 5/6 classes they have been putting together a Tourism Expo, there was lots of research undertaken throughout the term to provide exciting information about their country of choice.

Each term our focus across the school supports the development of learning from year to year. Next term our units will focus on Social Justice.

Thank you to our teaching and support staff who have provided a diverse learning program for our students again this term. I appreciate their efforts to move quickly in and out of remote learning. Our staff continue to hold student learning at the core of all they do and should be proud of their continued efforts this term.

Thank you to our parents and carers for their support throughout the term, especially during lockdown. Never an easy time, but working together we continue to support our students.

Pupil Free Day - July 19th

Our rescheduled Pupil Free Day will take place on Monday July 19th, this will be our Parent Teacher Interviews. Interviews will take place from 12pm to 8pm.

Details about how to book your interview will come to you all via a Sentral message.

Senior School Production

Did you hear the shouts of yahoo last week? We have two new dates confirmed by the Besen Centre for our Senior School Production. Llaaneath worked tirelessly to secure new dates, be sure to put Thursday October 21st and Friday October 22nd into your family calendar.

A special thank you to the community members who have supported our production and continued to make costumes, props and sets throughout lockdown.

Thank you to Llaaneath for ensuring this valued performance opportunity for our students can continue.

Uniform Shop Survey

Thank you to all those who contributed to our Uniform Shop Survey.

The survey provided us with a clear message about the value the community places on our Second Hand Uniform shop. The majority of those who completed the survey wanted a shop back on site at BPPS.

We are meeting with RHSport before the end of term to plan for the return of the uniform shop.

We will need to move the shop from the current space due to COVID safety requirements.

Our aim is to set up the new space as soon as possible, the community will be informed when it is ready to go. We will work out opening times and when trade commences in conjunction with RHSport.

Mental health and wellbeing

How are you?

Are you okay?

These two simple questions have power within a community. Offering a listening ear is all it can take to provide the support needed or to even get a conversation going with someone in need of help.

Attached to our newsletter this week is a fact sheet (in English and Chinese) designed to provide parents with information to support the mental health and wellbeing of students over the holiday period. We have also included a fact sheet for students. The sheets provide information around how to:

  • support positive mental health and wellbeing of students
  • identify signs students may need mental health support
  • access available support

Sentral App - Calendar of events

We regularly provide feedback to Sentral around functionality and changes we would like to see. We provided feedback to Sentral on improving the ability to view school events. The app now allows families to view events daily, weekly and monthly.

Keep an eye out for Randal's message regarding the Sentral App. There are other improvements to the app, which will be outlined in the document Randal is sending out today.

Child Care Centre Update

For your information the planning permit for the Child Care Centre which was planned for Almond Street, just across the road from the school has been refused by the City of Boroondara.

QR Code reminder

Everyone coming into the school buildings must log in using the QR code which is displayed on doors, windows and gates. At all times we must know who is onsite, thank you for supporting us by using the QR code. If you are not able to access it download the Service Victoria app and use code SRG QZQ.
