AGTV GERMAN POETRY STATE FINAL

After McKinnon achieved second and third place in the Regional Final, our Silver medal recipient Maya Mattathil from Year 7 was eligible to attend the State Final on Saturday 27 August at the Austrian Club in Heidelberg.

There were approximately 20 finalists in each category. Students with some German background competed in separate sections to make it fair for DaF (Deutsch als Fremdsprache- German as a foreign language) students.

Maya did a great job of reciting her poem ‘Machen Wir Frieden’ (Let’s make Peace) and was very excited to take out 3rd place. Congratulations Maya!

BERTHE MOUCHETTE COMPETITION UPDATE

We have just received the results of the first stage of the Years 11 and 12 Berthe Mouchette competitions, and we are very pleased that nine of our Year 11 French students and six of our Year 12s are finalists. Ten of our Year 11s and six of our Year 12s also received the highest possible mark in both sections of the written component.

We look forward to hearing how they fare in the finals - and we are also waiting to hear how our junior finalists went. It has been a great year!

Junior Berthe Mouchette Finals – Student Report

BERTHE MOUCHETTE

“On Sunday 14 August, I competed in the Berthe Mouchette finals. I recited the poem ‘Dans le regard d’un enfant’ by Claude Haller.

I have competed in the finals in previous years, having to go to the Alliance Francaise to recite my poem. This year’s finals took place via zoom, so I felt less nervous having my mum by my side. The whole thing went really quickly: I was admitted to the zoom meeting by two judges, I recited the poem, and then they told me that I could leave.

I want to thank all the French teachers who helped me understand and practice this passionate poem.”
