Intermediate Boys Cricket

On Thursday 2 March, thirteen very skilful and ardent sportsmen along with their two coaches, took to the field in their 2022 State Cricket shirts to play three T10 matches against Upwey, Rowville Sports Academy (RSA) and Scoresby, in order to defend their title from 2022.

The day started strong, winning their first game against Upwey. Wantirna batted first and made 2/125, lead by a 72 run partnership between J Edwards (53*) and L Payne (33*). In response, we restricted Upwey to a measly 4/44 off their 10 overs. J Ellis and M Buckingham each claimed a wicket with M Buckingham and R Morris also each getting a run out. The final result was Wantirna winning by a smooth 81 runs.

Coming off the win from Upwey, now it was time for the game of the day, lining up against RSA. Rowville won the toss and batted first putting up a competitive total of 5/75. Wickets were shared amongst the bowling unit with J Edwards, R Morris, J Taylor & L Payne each grabbing one with L Payne also getting a run out. In response, Wantirna fell just short in a final over thriller finishing on 5/73. L Payne (15) and C Ryan (19) were the two standouts.

In the final game of the day against Scoresby, we were sent into bat and put up 5/60. J Ellis was top scoring with 17 at the top of the order. Bowling unit took control of this game, keeping Scoresby to just 52. L Payne finished off a strong day, taking 2 wickets.

I was super impressed with how the boys played across the day. They came out of the day as runners up winning two games with their only loss to RSA. A special shout-out to captains Jackson Edwards and Lachlan Payne and Year 11 coaches Max Taylor and Cam Graham for their sensational leadership! I was stoked with the efforts on the day and the boys should commend themselves for their performance.
