School for Student Leadership

Yr 9 Snowy River Campus

School For Student Leadership

School for Student Leadership is a Victorian Department of Education and Training (DET) initiative offering a unique residential education experience for Year 9 students. The curriculum focuses on personal development and team learning projects sourced from students' home regions. There are four campuses in iconic locations across Victoria and each year six of our Year 9 students attend the Snowy River Campus near the mouth of the Snowy River at Marlo in east Gippsland, for one school term. Here a report from this year's students:

Activities Done & Settling In

On the fifth of February, six of our school’s Year 9 students (Blake White, Blake Jolme, Maggie Shores, Sage Mogyorossy, Mica Gavrilovic and Leo Beveridge) set out on a journey to the Snowy River Campus of the School for Student Leadership. We will be attending the Leadership School for the whole of Term 1.

We have been at the school for 21 days now and thought it would be a good time to give you an update of our time here. A day in the school starts at 6.30am where we get up and have breakfast and get ready for the day. We have a morning class until lunchtime, an afternoon class until 3.30pm. At 5pm, after our afternoon class, we have a silent reflection for half an hour called DEARR (Drop Everything and Read/Reflect). At around 7.30pm we have our final class of the day being our evening class.

So far, we have done the following indoor classes Respectful Relationships, Collaboration, Identity, Resilience and Learning Strategies.  Tese classes are just some of our I-Am learning concepts!

We have done a few outdoor activities (like Surfing, today) which was a very good time.  We have also done snorkelling! This place involves so much learning and we are working super hard on our Community Learning Project (CLP) which involves the six of us sitting in a room agreeing on who does what in our sessions.
