Year 9 Dance

Year 9 Coordinator

After a two year hiatus, the Year 9 Social made a comeback onto the BSC events calendar in November this year.

The build-up actually started in Term 3 with a social committee being elected, resulting in two representatives per homegroup forming the committee. The first order of business was to select a song to build a dance around.  This dance would be learned by all Year 9 students during Terms 3 and 4, during Sport/Physical Education sessions.

After a little bit of a slow start, it was great to see students become more confident and the buy-in and execution of a complicated dance to Dua Lipa’s Levitating was a highlight of the term. A core group from the student representatives put in their own time organising a theme for the event (using a Teams Poll to let their peers vote). They also designed a poster, curated a playlist, organised a DIY photo both, designed a catering plan, chose an MC and set up al the decorations for the evening.

Students arrived in their best 2000’s costumes and, although it happened to be the hottest night post winter so far, the dance floor had a committed crew that ended up with sore feet and smiling faces. Others were happy just to hang with their peers and the inclusiveness and kindness on display is a testament to the culture that this year level is striving towards. Having a sizeable portion of the cohort bust out their moves, in sync, to Levitating amazed all the Home Group and HPE staff in attendance - reinforcing how important it was to have the Year 9 Social back on the calendar.

Year 9

The Year 9 Social was very fun, the music was really good, and the food tasted amazing, I spent a really fun time dancing and chatting with my friends.

The Year 9 Social was even more fun than I had imagined [it would be]: there was food, snacks, drinks and also music. What I like was that there was table-tennis outside and dancing to Levitating and Men in Black. I enjoyed hanging out with my friends; it was an amazing night.

IT WAS GREAT! Despite most people being unsure at the start of it, everyone got into it in the end and it ended up being super-hype and cool. Not much else to say apart from how great it was!
