Just dance!

Co-curricular Program - Dance

BSC introduced an exciting new competition this year – the Brunswick Dance Challenge.

To participate, students were asked to choreograph and perform  an original, one to one-an-a-half minute solo or group dance.  All aspects of the performance, including style, choice of music and costume, had to be developed by the students involved in the item.

To assist students to meet the challenge, a lunchtime workshop was held prior to the performance to give the dancers time to rehearse on the stage.  Along with this, all performers could seek and receive feedback on their work, so that they had the opportunity to further refine their performances. The standard of this initial rehearsal was high!

With a late withdrawal on the day of the competition (due to illness ) the title came down to three performances: Nikolina Stevanovic performing a Jazz solo, Greta Drimmel and Ava Kee’s Lyrical duo, and dance brothers Alexander and Zachary Yiolitis with their Tap Dance duo.

On the day, it was Alexander and Zachary who won the challenge, impressing judges not only with their dance ability, but also their charisma, stage presence and connection with their audience.

Thank you to our wonderful judges, Karen Harris, Emily Palekis and Cassandra Blachford-Simpson who had a very tough job!
