I am pleased to report that students of Years 10 and 11 Italian achieved very good results for the University of Melbourne Dante Alighieri Original Poetry competition.
Founded in 1896, Dante Melbourne (Societa Dante Alighhirei Melbourne Inc) has a history defined by its unwavering commitment to promoting Italian language and culture in our community; most importantly in schools. The society organises a range of competitions for primary and secondary school students (including the Dante Alighieri Poetry Competition) and supports university students studying Italian by organising academic and social events. It also reaches out to our wider community through our literary lectures and other cultural endeavours.
This competition challenged our talented students to submit an original piece of poetry, written in Italian. Students wrote their piece on a topic of their choosing, and employing the poetic style of their choice. Poems were required to be in verse, to reflect suitable content for the student's age, and to use grammatical structures appropriate to each student's year level. While they were supported by their teachers via proof-reading and grammar checks, each submission was an honest reflection of the the student's ability in Italian language.
Bravo! to the following students who earned acknowledgement for their efforts.
