Media CCP

Emily Doyle

Media Coordinator

This year’s Media Co-curricular Program students have been hard at work developing a “prison break” short crime story about students escaping from detention.

In amongst other short film making projects (including a 1 minute horror film challenge!) students spent three terms undertaking the pre-production for a whole-school film project; everything from developing an understanding of genre, writing the screenplay, casting, and creating a shot list.

This year’s principal photography was shot over four after-school sessions in the library and school surrounds. Going across four sessions introduced students to the challenges of continuity and working within time constraints; something they hadn’t yet experienced in the usual lunchtime CCP. These production days were student led, and an opportunity to see how the film they devised in their mind could come to fruition.

It’s so wonderful seeing students collaborating on fun creative projects outside of class time, honing their creative storytelling and communication skills. The footage is ready and waiting to be cut together into a masterpiece, by next year’s CCP crew. I can’t wait to see how it comes up!

Year 8

Making the film for Media CCP was so fun. We got to write and edit the scripts ourselves, as well as figuring out shortlists and learning how to use the cameras. It was super cool to see what goes on behind the scenes of a movie and I loved being a part of it! Acting in a film is definitely different to acting on stage, because you get to do your scenes as many times as you want to make sure you get them right. Now it's time to edit, and I can't wait to show you all what we made!

Thank you for letting us make the movie after school. It gave us a chance to do what we love doing!

Year 8

Creating this film was an extremely fun experience and a really good insight into how hard making a short film is. Despite all the twists and turns that come with making a production, it was still a very fun experience! We used the same premise of the film from 2021, and, although we didn’t get to come up with our own original ideas, we still got to mould the screenplay it into our own.

After checking the script for the millionth time it was time to film. We gathered all the props and it was lights, camera, and action! It was really fun having multiple cameras as when it comes to editing it will be cool moving camera angles in the middle of a scene. All in all, this was a really fun and exciting project, learning all the ins and outs of making a short film, from the scripting, cameras, shot lists, and much more. I can’t wait to start editing and be able to show the Brunswick community what we have made!
