"If you don't like to read, you haven't found the right book."  J.K Rowling

What a fantastic and busy start to the year!

Library people celebrate Library Lovers Day on February 14th.  It's a time to celebrate and promote all the wonderful things libraries do.  So what better time to introduce the new Year 7s to Sandringham College's amazing space - The Library.

All Year 7 students have now taken part in a library orientation session during their reading class.  Students learnt about the resources available to them via the Sandringham College Library Website.  They were introduced to the first competition of the year - an online catalogue scavenger hunt.  By taking part in the competition students were able to learn how to use the catalogue and search for books 24/7.  There were three winners, and they all received a canteen voucher.  But most importantly they learnt about the amazing up to date collection of books the library houses.  Students are able to search out books by their genre which makes it much easier to find a story that may hold their interest.

The Sandringham College Website is an amazing resource for students and staff.  Students are able to access the many databases and digital resources the library subscribes to via the website.

Some of those resources are -

Encyclopaedia Britannica

Fact checked online Encyclopaedia. Tools to enhance learning such as read aloud function.  Convert English to another language.

Online Referencing Generator

APA style 7th edition.
  • Junior (abridged), Middle and Senior levels
  • Creates citations for a comprehensive range of sources – copy & paste into bibliography.
  • Rollover describes each element of the citation.
  • Example of in-text reference for each source.

The library also subscribes to an eBooks and audiobook platform, this is available to students 24/7.

Students wanting more information or help to access these many resources can ask any member of the library team or contact us via the website with their query.
