Northcote High School Virtual Art Show 2021

I would like to recognise the Wurundjeri people as the Traditional Custodians of the land on which we come together to learn and create, and pay respects to Elders of the Kulin Nation past and present.

So here we are again, at the end of another year where we have all been tested with our capacity to maintain our focus and remain motivated, despite the chaos of the world around us. We have all had to recognise our collective strain as a community, band together and support each other to see the sparkle in the little things around us.

As the artist Bruce Garrabrandt said, “Creativity doesn't wait for that perfect moment. It fashions its own perfect moments out of ordinary ones." So we take those moments where we have felt lost, where our anxieties manifest themselves, where it seems like all our motivation is pushed into the corners of our brains and we build from those corners into rooms and those rooms into buildings and those buildings into wondrous mansions of creativity.

I would like to thank the Northcote High School Art Faculty for being such wonderfully caring, enthusiastic and diligent members of the Northcote High community and constantly lending knowledge, guidance and support to our young creatives. The Northcote High teachers are: Christine Martin, Connie Stewart, Catherine De Sousa, Kirsty Owen, Hilary Dodd, Dean Ashton, Alora Young, Barry Drinen and Paula Andreovski.

We have curated a virtual tour for you all to enjoy and reflect upon 2021. Art works include everything from the Year 7 Still Lifes, to Animation and Media videos in Years 9 and 10, all the way up to the Year 12 VCD, Studio Art and Media.

Please take a moment to reflect with us upon the year and celebrate what the students have achieved together.
