Year 9 Media Genre and Technique

Charles Harsley

Throughout semester 2 in Media Genre & Technique, students learnt about all the different ways a camera can be used to tell a story. Students began the semester by conducting an analysis of a chosen scene from the film “Life of Pi.” They then created their own short film which focused on cinematizing the mundane. Students used editing techniques in Adobe Premiere to transform ordinary moments into mesmerizing cinematic pieces. A project that seemed extremely fitting given the context of lockdown 6.0. They documented, captured, and found beauty in their everyday environments. Subsequently, making the familiar worthy of our attention. Students ended the semester by creating their very own promotional poster for their short film. They demonstrate their knowledge of the relative codes and conventions, along with their ability to apply them creatively on their movie poster in relation their chosen genre.
