Year 9 Sculpture

Minke Cook

There are two units of study:

Unit 1 is Plastic 3D marine life assemblage.

In Unit 1 Students researched Fiona Hall, Sayaka Kajita Ganz and David Edgar’s styles of plastic sculptures. They drew ideas of ocean life that is damaged by plastic rubbish and created a 3D fish or ocean life out of plastic from their recycle bin.

Usually in the onsite classes students would then be given the opportunity to create an extension task of their own choice using their acquired experience of the materials and using the school glue guns. Unfortunately, lockdown halted that opportunity.

During lockdown the students created a 3D Pillow person. This activity was designed so that students could use existing items found in the home.

Unit 2 is a 3D wire action person. During lockdown students researched Alexander Calder and then researched a modern wire sculptural artist of their own choice. Then students created drawings in preparation for their wire action figure sculpture that was created onsite.
