Year 7 Visual Art

In Year 7 Visual Art, we focused on the theme of ‘Identity’ throughout the semester. We aimed to develop students’ understanding of themselves, how they relate to others and the environment around them. Like last year, 2021 has been a rollercoaster of a year, students were given the opportunity to unleash their creativity and to express themselves through their art in this difficult time. There are 2 main units- Archibald Prize and Still Life. In Still life, students explored a range of styles in a variety of materials, and they reflect on their past, evaluate the present and aspire for the future in creating their own still life arrangement. Due to remote learning, students had to be resourceful with the materials available to them within their own home.
In the Archibald Prize, students learned about the history of the Archibald Prize and the historical & cultural contexts around portraiture in Australia. They developed the skills to draw portraits and to capture the personality of the sitter. They created a portrait of a significant person to them and represented them via symbolism and stylisation. We hope you will enjoy the variety of faces presented in these unique portraits.
