Year 11 Visual Communications and Design

Joel Taylor

This year in Visual Communication Design, students completed a range of products that consistently demonstrated their growing competency in a range of design fields. They started unit 1 off by undertaking tasks that aimed to build foundational skills in design thinking, technical drawing, and digital design. They delved into the history of design by gathering research for the creation of their very own educational zines in relation to a specific design movement. Students were thrown a curve ball when forced back into lockdown. They suddenly lacked required equipment and materials. The pressure was on to be extra resourceful. They proved their resilience by overcoming these obstacles and creating some high-quality folios of work. To end the year, students demonstrated their skills in both the communication and environmental design fields by redesigning logos and architectural structures for the Melbourne Sea Life Aquarium.
