Year 9 The Art of Science

Lotte Barnett

Despite the trials of the 2021 Covid year students were able to embrace the scientific world with creativity and vigour. In The Art of Science there were two units of study, Environmental and Anatomical. In the environmental component, John Wolseley was researched and then the students were asked to create a piece based around a current environmental issue. In the human anatomy component, students used the influences from the work of Patricia Piccinini and her scientific research into the human Genome and Da Vinci’s studies of the human anatomy. Students developed their own contention to do with the human body and its context in a changing world such as: the growth of human tissue and organs from stem cells, Human robotics and neuroscience and aging. They were an enthusiastic class to work with and they have produced some truly outstanding work.
