Attitudes to School Survey

Last week our Year 4, 5, and 6 students participated in the annual Attitudes to School Survey. This survey is offered by the Department of Education and Training to assist schools to gain an understanding of students’ perceptions and experience at school. Students were asked about their thoughts and feelings in relation to school, their learning, peer relationships, bullying, and life in general.

We will receive feedback later in the year regarding the Attitudes to School Survey. This will be used to inform our next School Strategic Plan.

NAPLAN

This week sees our Year 3 and 5 students participate in NAPLAN (National Assessment Program – Literacy and Numeracy). NAPLAN will run on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday. There have been modifications made to the whole school timetable to ensure the students are able to participate at the correct times.

Education Week

In Week 6 (week commencing 24th May) the school will participate in Education Week. This year the theme for Education Week is ‘Building Connections’. The theme celebrates the connections between schools and local communities and strengthens bonds with families and carers.

At NMPS, classroom teachers are busy planning a variety of open sessions and activities where parents and carers can become involved. Please keep a lookout on Compass for further details.

Classroom Volunteers

It’s been great to see our parents and carers who have started their work in our classrooms as volunteer helpers. We welcome and thank these volunteers!

2020 Annual Report to the School Community

The Annual Report to the School Community provides principals and school councils with an opportunity to share the year’s achievements and progress with the school community. This includes reflecting on the school’s performance and explaining the positive impact of school improvement efforts on student outcomes.

Our 2020 Annual Reporting Community Meeting will be held at 5:30 pm on Thursday 20th May. If you would like to attend this meeting, please register your interest.

Buildings and Grounds Work

I thank all families for their flexibility while we continue to manage the building and grounds work around the school. This work is scheduled to be completed this term. Please note the garden gates 6 & 7 on Murphy Street will continue to be closed until later this week.

Congratulations to NMPS teachers Eve and Emily

Congratulations to Eve Wilson and Emily Marlow who recently presented at the ‘Melbourne TAPP Mentor Professional Learning Day’. This presentation is run by The Melbourne Graduate School of Education and the Melbourne Teaching Academy of Professional Practice.

Eve and Emily completed their Micro-Cert in 2020 and were asked to present to a range of principals, teachers, and pre-service teachers around Evidence-based teaching and learning.

New Principal Appointment

It is with great enthusiasm that I am able to share with you that I have been appointed the new Principal of North Melbourne Primary School.

I am honoured to have the opportunity to continue to lead a school with such wonderful students, an extremely dedicated staff, and a supportive school community. I feel very fortunate to be a part of this school and look forward to immersing myself in our school and in our community.

Having led North Melbourne Primary School (NMPS) as the Acting Principal since the beginning of Term 3 2020, I have a clear understanding of the strategic direction and school improvement agenda. I will continue to foster a safe, purposeful and inclusive learning environment for all students, ensuring we are maintaining our school vision to provide ‘guaranteed extraordinary learning opportunities for students, providing a rich curriculum and evidence-based practices of teaching.’

I believe the relationships between families and the school are vital to the success of our students, so I encourage all members of our community to become involved in every way possible. Please know that my door is always open, and I welcome your conversation and positive input throughout the year.

I look forward to working together with all students, staff and families this year and over the coming years.
