School Sports Victoria – 2021 State Swimming Championships

By Anisa, Year 6C

The School Sports Victoria State Championships took place last week on the 26th of April at Melbourne Sports and Aquatic Centre (MSAC). Different schools around Victoria were taking part in the competition. North Melbourne Primary School was proud to have two swimmers representing the school at this event.

The competition day went very fast due to how greatly organised it was. The day began with the swimmers doing their warmups, which started at 9:15 am. This gave all the swimmers enough time to practice their diving and swimming.

At 10 am the individual races began. Starting with breaststroke, which was then followed by backstroke, butterfly, and finally freestyle. I competed in the girls' age 12-1350m freestyle event and came third in my race, getting a bronze medal. I swam a time of 30.35 seconds with only 0.7 of a second separating 1st, 2nd and 3rd swimmers.

Michael in Year 4 competed in the boys' age 9-10 50m butterfly and came second, achieving a silver medal.

Each swimmer who placed first, second or third was awarded a medal (gold, silver, or bronze), and had their photos taken after their event.

Overall the day was a great experience and lots of fun.
