From Megan, Year 1 teacher

Year 1 and 2 had an amazing time at the Cultural incursion this week. We had three sessions where we learned about and participated in different cultural experiences.

We started the day off with some Bollywood dancing with Val. We danced to the song Jai Ho and learned some Bollywood dance moves.

“Cultural Infusion is Australia’s leading culture-in-education provider and has been encouraging intercultural harmony throughout schools for almost 20 years.
North Melbourne Primary School’s recent Multicultural Half Day Program featured three of Cultural Infusion’s most popular presenters and groups:
Monica Weightman, a Murri woman, taught the students about Indigenous culture and the importance of storytelling through art. Monica taught students some basic symbols and helped the construct their own stories.

Valli Batchelor and her team, taught students about Indian culture including music, art and origin of Bollywood. Students also got to try learn some Bollywood dancing for themselves

Frank Lam and his team brought to life the ancient Chinese Martial Art of Lion Dance and demonstrated to the children how their movements bring the Lion to life. They also taught children about the traditional meaning of the Lion Dance and how it brings good luck and fortune. “
