SENIOR BOYS FOOTBALL - STATE FINALS

On Tuesday 16 August the Senior Boys Football side competed in the State Finals for 2022.

The team travelled down to Trinity Grammar playing fields on a wild and wet day of weather to take on Warragul's Marist-Sion College in the State quarter final. The match was an absolute wet-weather footy arm wrestle that went right down to the wire. Lively forward Janko Hattingh (Year 12) kicked his second goal as the sealer with just seconds remaining for us to progress to the Semi Final.

McKinnon 5.8.38 defeated Marist-Sion College 2.14.26

In the State semi-final we came up against a highly talented Vermont SC filled with players from the mighty Vermont Eagles FC out in the Eastern league.

They were quick and slick ball movers on the big ground, and despite our injury toll, we hung in there for the whole match until they kicked one against the flow to seal victory.

Vermont SC 7.8.50 defeated McKinnon SC 5.3.33

Thanks to all the wonderful parents who made the journey down to Bulleen to support the team, and to Old McKinnon FC trainer Jo Harty for her assistance on the day.

Congratulations to all the boys who represented the College throughout the season of football, and to the Year 11s, we will do it all again next year.

YEAR 8 BOYS SOCCER SMR

After going through their first round of competition undefeated the Year 8 Boys Soccer team headed off confident of a successful day in the SMR finals.

A 2-0 win against Fountain Gate started the team's day well. Our 2nd game came against an organized Frankston High School team who took the chocolates 2-0. The final game for the day was a 9-0 win over Mount Eliza.

Unfortunately, the loss to Frankston meant we were unable to progress any further in 2022. The last game may serve as a warning shot to other schools for next year as McKinnon looks to have a very strong squad to choose an intermediate team from in 2023.

Goal scorers included:

  • Evan Chen with 3 goals including a penalty shot.
  • Zion Simons with 3 goals.
  • Luke Bowman, Adam Virgona, Ramon Nelson-Jimenez and Eden Leshetz with a single goal each.

Congratulations to the team on a good campaign.

YEAR 8 GIRLS SOCCER SMR CHAMPIONS

On Wednesday 17 August fourteen Year 8 Girls went down to Kingston Heath Soccer Complex to play in the Southern Metro Region Finals.

The team played three pool matches defeating Glen Eagles 9-0, Elisabeth Murdoch College 2-0 and Mt Eliza 2-0.

This took us into the final where we played Cheltenham and scored in each half to win 2-0 in a tight hard-fought victory.

The girls now progress on to the State Finals on Tuesday 6 September.

Good Luck Girls!

YEAR 8 GIRLS BADMINTON SMR

On Thursday 18 August, the Kingston Division Champions, Year 8 Girls played Keysborough, Elwood and Cranbourne in the Southern Metropolitan Regional finals.

In the first round, we were eager to play against Keysborough, but we overexerted ourselves during our warmup and couldn't play as well as we would have liked. Although we tried our best, we lost 4-2.

After a short snack break, we were ready to beat our next opponents. It was a fun game that resulted in our win 6-0. Elwood showed great perseverance throughout and we all enjoyed our games.

Following lunch, we played Cranbourne East.  We played six games and won 5-1. They were an incredible team.

Overall, we finished 2nd in Pool B.

Congratulations to Sophie Yu who remained undefeated for the day.

The team of six enjoyed the day and we learnt lots of valuable lessons and played many exciting games.

We would like to thank Mrs Hooper for coaching us and the other teams.

It was an amazing atmosphere, and we hope we can play again soon.

YEAR 7 BOYS AND GIRLS SMR BADMINTON

On Wednesday 17 August both the Year 7 Boys and Girls Badminton teams ventured to Springers Sports Centre in Keysborough for their first ever Southern Metropolitan Region Final.

Both the Boys and Girls teams started off strong, beating Keysborough and then Glen Eira. Unfortunately, in our third match we were defeated by Narre Warren knocking us out of final hopes.

Special mention to both teams for their great sportsmanship on the day!
