CBCA BOOK OF THE YEAR 

On Friday 19 August the winners of the CBCA Book of the Year Awards were announced for 2022.

 

In the category of Older Readers, the winner was Rebecca Lim’s Tiger Daughter. The novel is the story of Wen Zhou the only child of Chinese immigrants in Australia. It is a story of friendship and hope and aims to dispel myths about migrants and refugees in Australia. Rebecca Lim is an advocate for diversity in literature particularly on high school book lists.

Girls in Boys’ Cars by Felicity Castagna and How to Repaint a Life by Steven Herrick were recognized with honours.

Shadowers’ Choice Award

For the first time CBCA has introduced the Shadowers’ Choice Awards where young people can cast their opinions on the shortlisted books. This year Sugar Town Queens by Malla Nunn was the popular choice.

EAST CAMPUS BORROWING

Years 8 & 9 students who would like to borrow books from the main campus library can place reservations on books via the library catalogue. Library staff will contact students with details of how to collect their reservation. Reservations can generally be collected from library staff on Wednesday mornings at East Campus. 

 

Book returns can be placed in the return box on level 2, near the Student Managers’ office at East Campus. 

 

East Campus also has a collection of books on level 2 for students. These books can be read and returned to the shelves on an honesty system.
