WINTER CONCERT

Congratulations to the Head of Performing Arts, Ms Megan Papworth and the Instrumental Music Managers, Mr Dmitry Serebrianik and Ms Clare Bugeja and the Music faculty for their wonderful celebration of music held at the Robert Blackwood Hall last week.

It was so special to be able to celebrate this event again and showcase the musical talents of our students. Concerts like these allow students’ talent to be recognised. It also allows our exceptional music program to be celebrated.

It is about participation and excellence and provides a benchmark for schools and students in Victoria.

Thank you to the music staff for the difference they make and to the team of staff and students who made it all possible. Thank you to local member Nick Staikos for attending and also to the families and friends who made it such a special occasion.

DEPARTMENT VIP VISIT

Today Pitsa Binnion and I had a visit to the East Campus from the Secretary of the Department of Education - Jenny Atta, the Department of Education Deputy Secretary for Schools and Regional Services - David Howes and Ian Burrage our Regional Director.

They came to tour the East Campus to see it in operation. It was a great opportunity for them to observe this remarkable facility and see how our learning programs are adapting to the flexible spaces and technology rich environment.

It’s always wonderful to showcase our school, particularly this ‘state-of-the-art’ Campus. It was a proud moment for Pitsa and myself.

WEAR IT PURPLE DAY

Last Friday 26 August we celebrated Wear It Purple Day which is a day when we come together as a community to celebrate and embrace inclusiveness.

The past two years we celebrated this day at home, during one of our many lockdowns. It was wonderful to have Wear it Purple Day back at the school to support and celebrate students who are part of the LGBTQ+ community.

This year's theme was ‘Still me, still human’. The message being that people tend to focus on labels, the news story, the target or data and forget what we truly are – human.

Thank you to Ms Sip, Mr Abela and the Pride Club who organised fantastic lunchtime activities at both East and Main Campuses.

LOST PROPERTY

I am surprised at the number of items we have in lost property at the moment. If your child is missing anything, please ask them to go and check lost property in the Sick Bay. There are numerous unlabelled items that have been handed in.

Please write the names of your children on jumpers, jackets, sports gear, skirts, shirts, lunch boxes, pencil cases etc. which makes returning these items to students so much easier.

PARENT-TEACHER-STUDENT CONFERENCES

Parent-Teacher-Student Conferences are being held next week on Monday 5 September and Thursday 8 September. Students are not required to be at school on these days and lesson plans will be uploaded on Compass.

A reminder that Wednesday 7 September is also a student free day as teachers have a Professional Practice Day. Students undertaking the GAT on this day have been informed when to attend.
