DISCUSSING LEARNING WITH YOUR CHILD

When discussing with your child their academic achievement at school and the feedback provided on Learning Tasks (as well as Progress Reports and Parent-Teacher-Student Conferences), it is critical that parents and students look beyond grades and scores.

We encourage all students and their parents to instead reflect on each child’s academic progress and growth; a student’s intelligence is changeable, and focusing on growth has a very positive impact on student learning. Hard work and a willingness to persist when facing academic challenges are the keys to success for all students, and emphasising learning progress rather than grades/scores is a simple - but powerful - way to support student learning.

PARENT-TEACHER-STUDENT CONFERENCES

Our Parent-Teacher-Student Conferences are taking place on Monday 5 and Thursday 8 September. Teachers will be available for 5 minute conversations via Google Meet.  Normal classes will not run on these two days; teachers, however, will be leaving lesson plans on Compass. This ensures students have work to go on with at home when they are not attending their online interviews. Please note that bookings will close on Friday 2 September at 9am.

For families who have booked interviews, your child will receive an invite via their school email a few minutes before the scheduled appointment. More information about the interview process is available on the Compass Newsfeed.

Please ensure that you access Learning Tasks and Progress Reports on Compass prior to the interviews.  This feedback will help guide these conversations and ensure students reflect on their performance in Semester 2 thus far, and set effective goals and plans for the remainder of the academic year.

PROFESSIONAL PRACTICE DAY - Wednesday 7 September

A reminder that we will be having a staff Professional Practice on Wednesday 7 September and no students will be required at school. The only exception is students completing the GAT on this day at school (see information below).

VCAA GAT

The VCAA General Achievement Test (GAT) will be undertaken by all students completing a Unit 3 & 4 subject in 2022 on Wednesday 7 September. No VCE classes will be conducted on this day. Students are expected to be at school by 8:30AM. Students must know their VCAA student number, which can be obtained from their Student Managers. Pens, pencils, an eraser and scientific calculator are required. An English and/or bilingual dictionary can also be taken into the exam room. No electronic dictionaries, thesaurus or white-out liquid-tape may be taken into the GAT.

RESPECTFUL RELATIONSHIPS SENIOR SCHOOL PRESENTATION

We have organised for Sex Education Australia to speak to our senior students on Wednesday 14 September 2022, with a focus on consent.  Any parents who have questions are welcome to contact Ms Felmingham for additional information.
