STATE CHAMPIONS

Each year just over 400 schools participate in the School Sports Victoria’s Volleyball competition. Through knockout rounds, winning schools progress until they earn a spot in the State Finals. At this year’s Intermediate and Senior Finals, Kew High School was represented by boys’ and girls’ teams in all divisions. This was the first time ever we made a clean sweep of our Division and Conference, knocking off very competitive volleyball schools such as Rowville, who have a Sports Academy. In what ended up being a very successful day, our Intermediate boys' team ran out State Champions, beating arch rivals Eltham High School in a very tight match. The intermediate girls were State Runners Up after losing a hard fought match to Maffra Secondary College and both the Senior boys’ and girls’ teams finished third in close finals. Well done to all our teams. All the hard work is paying off and our year 7 and 8 teams have the opportunity to participate in the same event in term three.

In other volleyball news, the Victorian Schools Cup Beach Volleyball one day tournaments were held in March. Our students had the opportunity to test their volleyball skills on the beach as a pair or in teams of four. Kew High School came away from this event with 3 Silver medals and a new appreciation for how difficult it is to run and jump in the sand.

Preparation now continues for the Victorian Schools Cup Volleyball tournament which will be held in late July.
