PUBLIC SPEAKING

MOOTING COMPETITION

The year 11 Legal Studies class participated in the Bond University Mooting Competition. This is a contest where the students form legal teams in an appeal case and compete against other schools.

Held at the Court of Appeals in Southbank, the students presented their case in this realistic setting, with the adjudicators acting as the judges, firing questions at them during their presentation, to test their understanding of the case and application of the law. The whole class studied the case and assisted in the preparation. The legal team on the day were:  Senior Counsel - Tara O'Brien, Junior Counsel - Emma Watson and Acting Solicitor - Elly Pan.

JUNIOR PUBLIC SPEAKING

Kew Speechmasters was offered to junior students again in Term 2. This was a great opportunity for these students to accelerate their public speaking skills and confidence. The course culminated in the Junior Public Speaking Contest, which was open to all junior students. There were ten great speeches. Congratulations to Aidan Hurst  who won the contest. The three runners up were  Nikko Riazi, Tara Pringle  and Aaron Korczak-Krzeczowski  who will join Aidan as the Kew High School representatives in the Legacy Junior Public Speaking Award held in August.

DAV

Term 2 saw rounds two, three and four of the Debaters Association of Victoria Competition.  A busy term schedule of debates against neighbouring schools was held at Ivanhoe Girls Grammar. The debating programme offers the opportunity for students from Year 7 to 12 to join a team and extend their skills in the largest English-language debating competition in the world.  We experienced some wins and some close losses. Pictured here is our year 8 team: Zac Holland , Nikko Riazi and Tara Pringle.
