Leadership Report

Written by Brent Syme on behalf of the leadership team

Dear Saltwater Families,

As we reach the end of Week 8, I would like to take a moment to acknowledge the continued effort, resilience, and positivity shown by our students, staff, and families across what has been a busy and productive period of the term.

Students have been working hard in their learning, demonstrating persistence and growth across all areas. It has also been wonderful to see the strong sense of community across the school, with students supporting one another and engaging positively in both the classroom and the yard.

NAPLAN

Across Weeks 7 and 8, our students have been participating in NAPLAN assessments. These assessments provide valuable insights into student progress and help us tailor our teaching to best support their individual learning needs.

We encourage families to continue supporting their children to approach NAPLAN with a positive mindset by ensuring they are well rested, have a healthy breakfast, and arrive at school on time each day.

Attendance

Attendance remains a key priority during these final weeks of term. Every school day counts, and regular attendance is essential for students to stay connected with their learning and their peers.

Consistent routines and punctual arrival each day support students to feel settled and ready to learn. We thank families for their ongoing support in prioritising attendance.

Family Holiday Notification Reminder

As we approach the end of term and upcoming holiday periods, we would like to remind families of the school’s Family Holiday Notification process. Where possible, we ask that families provide at least two weeks’ notice of any planned absences during school time. This allows the school to support continuity of learning and ensure appropriate processes are followed.

Harmony Day – Coming Up

We are excited to be celebrating Harmony Day next week, a special occasion that recognises and celebrates the cultural diversity within our school and broader Australian community.

Harmony Day is centred around the message that “Everyone Belongs,” and provides a valuable opportunity for our students to reflect on inclusion, respect, and understanding of different cultures and backgrounds.

Students are encouraged to:

  • Wear a touch of orange, or

  • Dress in traditional cultural clothing

This year, we will also be incorporating a fundraising element, inviting a gold coin donation. All contributions will go towards purchasing new books to enrich our school library collection. We look forward to coming together as a community to celebrate this important day.

Ramadan and Eid

We would like to acknowledge that many members of our community are currently observing the holy month of Ramadan. This is a significant time of reflection, prayer, and fasting from dawn until sunset.

As Ramadan draws to a close, many families will celebrate Eid al-Fitr. To those celebrating, we wish you a joyful and meaningful time, Eid Mubarak.

This week, we proudly recognised several of our students during a small Active Travel presentation, celebrating their success in last year’s Footpath Art Competition.

Student-designed artworks are now displayed around the perimeter of our school, promoting important messages about walking, riding, and scooting safely, as well as the use of our “Kiss and Go” zones.

We are grateful for our ongoing partnership with Wyndham City Council and are incredibly proud to see our students contributing to safer and healthier travel within our community.

Student Leadership Snapshot

We are proud to recognise the many students who have recently taken on leadership roles across the school, including Class Captains and a range of leadership positions. These students are already demonstrating responsibility, care for others, and a strong commitment to our school values.

We look forward to sharing further updates, including our Junior School Council representatives, in the next newsletter.

Looking Ahead to the End of Term

With only two weeks remaining in Term 1, this is an important time for students to maintain focus, continue applying themselves in their learning, and finish the term strongly.

As we approach the school term break, we encourage families to begin preparing students for the change in routine. Some students may find this transition challenging, and discussing expectations for the break can help support a smooth and positive finish to the term.

Early Dismissal – Last Day of Term

A reminder that on the final day of Term 1, students will finish early at 2:30pm.

Thank you for your ongoing support, we truly value the partnership we have with our families in creating a positive, inclusive, and engaging learning environment for all students.

Warm regards,

The Leadership Team
