Student Leadership Conference

On Wednesday 18 of March our Year 6 House Captains and Class Captains attended the Dream and Lead Conference at the Melbourne Exhibition Centre.

Dream and Lead is a one-day, highly engaging event designed to support primary school students in discovering their leadership potential, whilst providing them with strong foundations to succeed.

Throughout the day, students participated in activities developing their problem-solving skills and increasing confidence and independence. Many successful leaders presented their journeys and values teaching us important strategies to cope with problems.

Active Travel Initiative

This week, we proudly recognised several of our talented students during a small Active Travel presentation at Saltwater P–9 College. Their creative designs were selected as winners in last year’s Active Travel Footpath Art Competition — an initiative that encourages safe and active travel to and from school.

We were pleased to welcome Wyndham City Councillor Susan McIntyre and representatives from Wyndham City Council’s Active Travel team, who joined our Principal and Assistant Principal to present certificates and congratulate students on their fantastic work.

Student-designed artworks have now been installed on footpaths around the perimeter of our school, promoting important messages about walking, riding or scooting safely and using our “Kiss and Go” zones. It is wonderful to see our students’ ideas contributing to safer and healthier travel within our community.

Office Leaders

We congratulate the students who have been selected as Office Leaders for 2026. These students have demonstrated responsibility, organisation and a willingness to contribute positively to our school community.

In this role, Office Leaders will support daily routines and assist with a range of important tasks across the school. We look forward to seeing them grow in confidence and leadership throughout the year.

Secondary Student Leaders

On Thursday 19 May, our Year 7-9 student leaders attended the Secondary Youth Leadership Conference. Three of our leaders reflected on the day.

Hi, I’m Monie and recently the secondary student leadership team was invited to participate in a Student Youth Leadership Conference.

The whole experience was engaging and inclusive. I was surprised when they welcomed us with internet trends that we could connect with.

Many speakers who presented their stories shared similar lessons, which I found interesting.

My favourite speaker was Wil Masarra. His journey started with his love of planes and ended with him founding YLAA. Him being able to act has inspired me to question what action I can take to support what I love.

“Confidence doesn’t come first - it comes from action” was said by Lexy McDonald. The understanding that action causes confidence allowed me to comprehend how a leader takes initiative.

In the end I was grateful to have participated and I hope to have an opportunity similar to this conference.

What does it really mean to be and act like a leader? This question was explored at the Youth Leadership Academy Australia (YLAA) conference through captivating speakers, interactive sessions, and new perspectives that challenged how I perceive leadership.

Throughout the conference, we heard from three inspiring guest speakers, each sharing an unforgettable lesson. Lexy McDonald showed us that, “Leadership starts by leading yourself.” Lucy Thomas reminded us that, “To be a leader, you don’t need to be perfect—you just need to be brave enough to take action.” Finally, Wil Massara emphasised that, “Age does not determine my ability to achieve extraordinary things.”

The thing I found most interesting was the idea that leadership isn’t about having a title or being the loudest in the room, but the small choices we make every day. Things like how we think, act, and respond to challenges. It made me realise that leadership is something that everyone can develop, regardless of their age or experience.

Overall, the YLAA conference was an inspiring experience that not only introduced me to new innovative ideas but also encouraged me to always step out of my comfort zone and grow. It is an opportunity that the rest of the leadership team and I are truly grateful for. Thank you to Ms Colling and Mr Stafrace for accompanying us!

I am incredibly grateful for the opportunity to attend the Melbourne Secondary Youth Leadership Conference. This inspiring experience allowed me to connect with new people and gain insight into their perspectives on leadership. Throughout the conference, I discovered valuable strategies for becoming a more effective and impactful leader, while also developing new skills and techniques. Most importantly, I gained a deeper understanding of what it truly means to be a leader. Additionally, the conference encouraged me to step outside my comfort zone and actively participate in discussions and activities. These experiences helped build my confidence and strengthened my communication skills.
