Year Three

Dear Year Three Parents and Carers,

A big congratulations to our Year Three students for successfully completing their NAPLAN assessments last week. We were very proud of the effort, focus, and perseverance they showed throughout the testing period. It has been another busy fortnight in Year Three, with students continuing to grow as confident learners and actively engaging in a wide range of classroom activities.

We would also like to congratulate the following students who were successful in their applications for Class Captains for 2026!

3A - Minami Chen

3B - Mya Pelman

3C - Amal Ali

3D - Aaniya Aggarwal

3E - Nayaab Brar

3F - Harrison Dickson

3G - Tysha Marwah

3H - Marco Antonio

Reading

In Reading, students continued developing their comprehension skills using the QAR (Question–Answer Relationship) strategy. Students worked with informational texts and practised answering different types of questions by locating information in the text and using their own thinking to explain their responses.

Students also explored a range of texts including Emmanuel’s Dream, Those Shoes, Flood, and The Empty Pot. Through discussion and activities, students practised making connections between the text and their own experiences, other stories, and events in the world around them, helping them think more deeply about the ideas and values within each story.

Writing

In Writing, students began by creating Heart Maps in their Writer’s Notebooks. This activity encouraged students to think about the people, places, memories, and experiences that are important to them and helped them generate ideas for future writing.

Students enjoyed applying their learning by creating a narrative linked to the theme of making good choices. They began by planning and drafting their stories, incorporating descriptive details and considering how a character’s choices and actions can lead to an important lesson by the end. It was wonderful to see students apply their learning and creativity to craft engaging stories with a clear message or moral.

Numeracy

Our Year 3 students have been working hard in Numeracy as they prepared for NAPLAN, demonstrating great focus and perseverance. Throughout the term, they explored a range of key concepts including identifying and describing 2D and 3D shapes, understanding transformations such as flips, slides, and turns, and developing their knowledge of fractions. It has been wonderful to see students applying these skills with growing confidence. To celebrate the completion of NAPLAN, students engaged in a fun and creative activity where they designed and created their own board games, incorporating mathematical thinking and problem-solving. This was a fantastic way to recognise their efforts while continuing to build their numeracy skills in an engaging way.

Unit of Inquiry

As part of the first Unit of Inquiry, students are diving into the central idea, Beliefs influence our identity, under the transdisciplinary theme Who We Are. As part of the provocation, students identified values across different scenarios and began recognising these values in real-life situations. This learning experience provided a valuable opportunity for students to reflect on their prior wonderings and deepen their understanding of how beliefs influence the choices we make. Students will also continue to explore their personal values and reflect on how these values influence their relationships with others.

Important Reminders

  • Students are required to wear wide-brim hats during recess and lunch in Term One.

  • Please ensure students bring a full water bottle each day.

  • iPads should be brought to school fully charged.

  • Last day of school is 2nd April 2026.

Warm regards,

Year 3 Team
