Prep

Welcome to week 8 of our Prep newsletter!
Weeks 7 and 8 were full of positive and meaningful learning experiences. Students have continued to settle well into classroom routines and are showing increasing independence across all learning areas. It has been wonderful to see their confidence grow as they embrace new challenges and take pride in their work.
Reading
Students have continued developing their understanding of rhyming words, which helps build early phonological awareness. We have also been exploring letter names and letter sounds, supporting students as they begin to connect letters with the sounds they represent. Alongside this, students have been learning important concepts of print, such as how books work, where to start reading, and how text moves from left to right. It has been wonderful to see their enthusiasm and growing confidence as they engage with books and language each day.
Writing
In Writing, students have been learning how to form letters and are beginning to understand how sentences are structured. We have been practising writing letters and exploring what makes a complete sentence. Students are also being encouraged to have a go at writing independently, building their confidence and sharing their ideas through writing. It has been wonderful to see their enthusiasm as they develop their early writing skills.
Mathematics
In Mathematics, students have been developing their understanding of subitising, which is the ability to quickly recognise the number of objects in a small group without needing to count them. We have been using flash cards to practise recognising numbers instantly and have played engaging games such as Roll and Circle and Roll and Cover. These activities help students build strong early number sense while learning through fun and interactive experiences.
Unit of Inquiry – Who We Are
Within our Unit of Inquiry, Who We Are, students continued exploring the central idea that understanding ourselves and others helps us learn and grow. Discussions focused on what makes us unique, how we are similar and different, and how our choices impact our learning and relationships. We participated in some rotations where we went to different classrooms and completed different activities that focused on our central idea. It was wonderful to hear the rich discussions students had about how the choices we make impact our learning and relationships with each other.
Wellbeing
In Wellbeing, students have been exploring how we all have similarities and differences, and learning that our differences do not stop us from being kind and inclusive friends. Through discussions and activities, students have been encouraged to appreciate and respect one another. We have also been practising how to follow instructions and work collaboratively while playing class games, helping students build positive relationships and teamwork skills.
