A Wonderful Term of Learning in Prep

It has been a busy and exciting term in Prep, filled with rich learning experiences and opportunities to connect with our community.

Throughout our unit of inquiry, 'Where we are in place and time', students explored how communities create opportunities for belonging and connection. We investigated the different communities we belong to, including our families, school, parish and local area. Students asked questions, shared family stories and explored how communities can change over time.

A highlight of the term was our excursion to Rippon Lea Estate. Students stepped back in time as they explored the historic mansion and gardens, learning about what life was like for children in the past. The excursion helped bring our inquiry to life and sparked many thoughtful discussions back in the classroom.

In literacy, students have immersed themselves in Writer’s Workshop, creating their own books and sharing their ideas with others. We have been learning how authors work together through peer conferencing, giving feedback and helping one another strengthen our writing. A very special highlight was welcoming author and educator Matt Glover into our classroom. Students enjoyed sharing their writing with him and learning more about the craft of writing from an experienced author.

In mathematics, students have engaged in hands-on investigations, games and problem-solving tasks as they explored number, counting and mathematical thinking. We have enjoyed working collaboratively, sharing strategies and finding different ways to solve problems.

As we finish the term, we are proud of the way our Prep students have embraced new experiences, supported one another and contributed to our classroom community.
