STEAM Update
As we approach the end of another exciting term, I would like to congratulate all students on the enthusiasm, persistence and creativity they have demonstrated during our coding lessons.
Across the school, students have been developing their computational thinking skills through a range of coding platforms and technologies. Our younger students have been using Bee-Bots to explore sequencing and problem-solving, while students in Years 1 and 2 have been creating interactive programs using ScratchJr. In the senior years, students have continued to build their coding knowledge using Scratch, learning how to design, test and refine their projects.
These experiences have helped students develop important skills such as logical thinking, collaboration, resilience and creativity, while deepening their understanding of key coding concepts.
Another highlight this term has been our LEGO Masters Lunchtime Challenge, held each Wednesday. Students have enthusiastically embraced a range of creative building challenges, including constructing the tallest tower, designing towers capable of withstanding an earthquake test, creating animals, food items, houses and much more. The creativity, problem-solving and perseverance on display have been outstanding, and students have eagerly anticipated the judging at the end of each session. It has been wonderful to see students sharing ideas, working collaboratively and celebrating one another's success.
We are now looking forward to one of the highlights of the year – STEAM Fest on the final day of term. Students will work in mixed-age groups and take part in a range of exciting STEAM challenges. As part of the day, they will have the opportunity to extend their coding skills using Sphero robots through differentiated challenges designed to suit a variety of experience levels.
Alongside coding, students will participate in engineering challenges, cardboard creations using our Makedo tools, science experiments, movie-making activities and much more. STEAM Fest provides a wonderful opportunity for students to collaborate, communicate their thinking, solve problems, take risks and learn from one another.
Term 3 STEAM Clubs
Looking ahead to Term 3, registrations are now open for our after-school STEAM Clubs, delivered by Kids Unlimited. This term's Robotics Club has been a fantastic success, and families will be pleased to know that the Term 3 Robotics program will feature new content and challenges rather than repeating this term's learning.
- Robotics Club – Tuesdays (Prep to Year 6)
Science Club – Wednesdays (Prep to Year 4)
Please take a moment to review the flyer. Once registered, you’ll receive access through the Parent Portal where you will find the lesson overviews outlining the content that will be covered throughout the term. Kids Unlimited also offers trial sessions for students who would like to give the program a try before committing.
For further information, you can contact Kids Unlimited directly at info@kidsunlimited.com.au.
We can't wait to see the creativity, teamwork and innovation that our students bring to STEAM Fest and our Term 3 clubs.
