Principal's Message

Principal Message Week 9 - Term 2

Last week was a special time in our parish. We celebrated Saint Columba Feast Day and Feast of Sacred Heart. The Mass held on Tuesday was a lovely celebration and thank you to those families who attended.

Facts about Saint Columba:

  • He is the patron saint of Ireland (along with St Patrick and St Brigid), Scotland, Derry, poets, bookbinders and floods. We can certainly relate to the poets, the bookbinders, and definitely the floods when the carpark gets hit by heavy rain!
  • His name comes from the Latin word ‘dove’ and his Irish name, Colm Cille, means ‘dove of the church’. The dove symbolises peace, purity and tranquillity, this reminds us of our theme: Walking together towards peace

Read by our school captains at the Mass:

Saint Columba, our patron saint, whose faith, courage and leadership continue to inspire us to this day. This year, our theme is Walking Together Towards Peace. Saint Columba was someone who walked with others. He gathered companions, journeyed with them and reached out to communities with faith, courage and hope. He understood that faith is not something we live alone, but something we grow in together.

When Saint Columba journeyed to Iona in Scotland, he created more than just a place to live, he created a community. A place of prayer, learning, welcome and peace. A place where people came together in faith and were strengthened by one another.

Just as the tiny island of Iona was shaped by his heart, our school is called to be shaped by that same spirit, a place where people are welcomed, where kindness is chosen, where peace is built and where we walk alongside one another.

Walking together towards peace means noticing those who need a friend.

It means showing compassion and understanding.

It means having the courage to stand up for what is right.

A term of growth and learning

It has been another amazing term, filled with many events! From cross country and interschool sports to volleyball, special assemblies, excursions to the museum and Ripponlea and celebrating Confirmation.

Our students, your children, are to be commended for their ongoing commitment to their learning. We are proud of their resilience, their enthusiasm to participate in every opportunity and their willingness to take risks and stay curious about our world. The pride they show in their school and in their daily achievements is what makes our roles as educators so rewarding.

Our teachers have spent a significant amount of time preparing the upcoming semester reports. As I finish reading through them, I am heartened by how deeply your child’s teacher truly knows each student.

The reports will be sent out via Compass on Monday 22nd June. If you do not have the Compass App, you will not be able to access the report and you are also missing out on other vital communications from school.

If you need assistance with the app, please visit or contact the office so we can get you set up.

I will be taking long service leave starting on Wednesday 24th June, for the last few days of term, Nicole, Angela and Rachael will be your points of contact to assist you with anything you need.

As we head into the winter break, we hope you take this well deserved time to slow down, connect and enjoy special moments with your family. Whether you are traveling or enjoying days at home, please take care, stay safe and keep warm during the chilly weeks ahead.

We look forward to welcoming everyone back refreshed and ready for a wonderful new term!
