Year 3/4 News

What a busy and exciting term 2 it has been in years 3 and 4! Students have continued to grow as curious, caring and reflective learners across all areas of their learning.
Through our 'Who we are' unit of inquiry, students explored wellbeing, identity and the importance of making balanced choices. This connected beautifully with Wellbeing Week, where students showed agency by choosing their own schedules and thinking about what helps them learn and feel their best.
As we moved into our 'Sharing the planet' unit of inquiry, students began exploring how access to resources and opportunities can affect people’s quality of life. They took part in thoughtful discussions and learning experiences about fairness, needs and wants, responsibility and how we can take action to help others.
Throughout the term, students continued to build their reading, writing and mathematical skills in meaningful ways. In literacy, they practised asking questions, making inferences and using interesting vocabulary in their writing. One special highlight was walking to our local kindergartens to read with the kindergarten children. The year 3 students showed kindness, confidence and leadership as they shared books and read with lovely kinder kids. In Mathematics, students have explored addition, subtraction and money through hands-on tasks using coins and notes. They enjoyed solving problems, explaining their thinking and sharing their learning with families during our Maths Open Morning.
We are very proud of the way the year 3 students have shown curiosity, care and independence throughout term 2.
Our year 4 students have also been busy in the school garden, planting a variety of herbs and vegetables and carefully monitoring their growth. They have also been taking responsibility for watering and weeding to help the garden thrive. Through this hands-on learning, students have shown themselves to be caring and principled, taking pride in nurturing living things and helping our garden flourish. In Mathematics, year 4 students have been exploring measurement by measuring lengths and learning how to calculate perimeter and area. They put these skills into practice in the garden by measuring the spacing between seeds when planting.
