Performing Arts

What a vibrant and exciting term it has been in Performing Arts!  

Our students have truly embraced every opportunity to move, create, and express themselves, filling our learning space with energy, enthusiasm, and plenty of smiles. 

This term, we were proud to explore Indigenous-inspired dance units, where students learned about the deep cultural importance of storytelling through movement. Through this work, we learned more of how dance can connect people to land, history, and community.  

A standout moment for me (and many) was our celebration of Reconciliation Week, where our students enthusiastically “rocked out” to Midnight Oil’s iconic song Beds Are Burning. What a classic!  

Adding to the excitement, was our schoolwide preparation for our Sacred Heart Feast Day celebrations and the learning of our new school song – Lift Up Your Hearts. It was great to ‘debut’ our new school song at mass on Friday and we will continue to hone our new dance moves for this uplifting school anthem.  

Throughout all our learning this term, there has been a key focus on understanding how dance can tell stories and help us communicate with each other. From small group tasks to whole-class performances, students have explored how gestures, facial expressions, and movement can express ideas, emotions, and narratives in unique and creative ways. 

It has been a joy to watch our students grow not only as performers but also as thoughtful collaborators and storytellers. I am incredibly proud of their willingness to try new things, support one another, and celebrate the arts.
