Humanities Portfolio

On Friday 21 August Ro, Zeina, Halima, Alice, Elsie and myself were given the opportunity to represent MGC at the National Council of Women’s ‘My Vote My Voice’ conference.

Students from 13 different government and independent schools around Melbourne gathered in the Legislative Council Chamber of the Victorian Parliament to address the topic ‘How AI Affects Your Education’.

Groups were encouraged to consider the effects of AI on themselves, their peers and the curriculum, conducting individual research and collecting data to support their views. We shared our ideas and worked together to develop a speech on AI-generated deepfakes and their effects on women’s education, careers and futures.

We were honoured to meet some wonderful leading women who have dedicated their lives to public service, including keynote speaker Dr Rumbi Nyanhoto, a National Academic Lead in Field Education in the discipline of Social Work and a rights advocate for girls’ education.

Overall, this was an amazing experience that we were privileged to have. We hope other students take the initiative and get involved next year, as it truly is an afternoon we will remember.
