Assistant Principal's Report
We are now over halfway through the term, and it has been packed full of all kinds of events and activities. Students in Years 7 to 11 have completed their course selections for 2027, and Year 9 and 10 students had the opportunity to attend a counselling session with their parents and a member of staff to discuss their options for next year. This is a time of excitement and anticipation as students now have greater choice over the subjects they wish to study in Year 10 and through the VCE.
Back to the 80s was a fabulous production and showcased the talents of a large number of our students, not just the performers, but also those who helped backstage with lighting, sound, props and costumes. These events bring together students from across the school and allow them to step outside their comfort zones and explore new things. A huge thank you to the Performing Arts staff for their organisation and leadership of this program.
Preparations are underway for the Year 9 City Experience, which will take place in Week 8, and staff are busy preparing progress reports ahead of the Term 3 Parent/Student/Teacher Conferences, to be held on the last Tuesday of term.

Year 9
Year 9 students have made a fantastic start to Term 3, hitting the ground running with course counselling and some important decision-making about their future pathways. This is an exciting milestone as students begin to explore their interests, strengths and aspirations, and start considering subject selections for VCE and beyond. It has been wonderful to see so many students engaging thoughtfully in the process and taking the first steps towards planning for life after MGC.
A huge congratulations to all Year 9 students who participated in this year's school musical. The production was a tremendous success and showcased the incredible talent, dedication and teamwork of our students. Countless hours of rehearsals, preparation and hard work went into bringing the performance to life, and every student involved should be incredibly proud of their contribution. Well done on an outstanding achievement!
Looking ahead, catch-up sessions for students who missed their Morrisby Interview will be scheduled early in Term 4. These conversations are an important part of the career planning process and provide valuable insights into future study and career options. We encourage students and families to continue discussing future goals and opportunities as they work towards making informed decisions about their pathways.
One of the highlights of the term is just around the corner: the Year 9 City Experience. We are incredibly excited to take our students into Melbourne's CBD for a week of learning, exploration and personal growth. Students will meet each day at 8.30 am at our designated hub, Victoria University City Tower 2, before working in groups to complete a variety of engaging activities. Dismissal will occur between 3.00 pm and 3.20 pm each day, depending on the activity schedule.

The City Experience provides students with valuable opportunities to develop independence, teamwork, problem-solving skills, and a deeper understanding of the city around them. We are looking forward to seeing our Year 9 students embrace this exciting opportunity and make the most of all the experiences on offer.

Year 10
It has been a busy few weeks for our Year 10 cohort, with students juggling personal growth, future planning, and creative pursuits all at once. Here is a look at what they have been up to.
Year 10 students took part in Youth Mental Health First Aid Training, building practical skills to recognise when a friend might be struggling and how to offer support. This training equips students with the confidence to have caring conversations and to know when and how to point a peer towards further help. It is a fantastic life skill that extends well beyond the school gates.
With Year 11 fast approaching, students have been meeting with course counsellors to map out their subject selections for next year. These conversations are an important step in shaping pathways towards future study and career goals, and we encourage families to keep the conversation going at home as students finalise their choices.
Excitement is building as students prepare for their upcoming work experience placements. From polishing resumes to researching workplace expectations, Year 10 students are getting a valuable first taste of the professional world before they head out into local workplaces.
Amid all the planning and preparation, a talented group of Year 10 students has also been busy on stage for this year’s school musical, Back to the 80’s. Their dedication after school and on weekends is a wonderful reminder of the creativity and teamwork our students bring to everything they do.
It is clear that our Year 10 students are growing in confidence, both in the classroom and beyond. Well done to everyone for embracing such a full and rewarding term!
