Interschool Sport
We are proud to share the outstanding efforts and achievements of our students in recent interschool sport competitions.
It is fantastic to see so many students embracing the sporting opportunities available at MGC. All teams, both social and competitive, represented the school to a high standard and consistently modelled excellent behaviour.
Senior Sport
Our Senior Sport teams have had a great run so far, with our Division Netball and Badminton teams finishing as runners up for the last terms competition. The Senior AFL team made it through to regionals following an amazing performance at division but unfortunately lost at the regional round.
This term, our Seniors competed in Basketball, Frisbee, Table Tennis and Hockey
- The Basketball A team narrowly lost to SEDA by just 1 point in the final. The team delivered an amazing performance, with standout contributions from Mollie Donovan, Meg McInnes, and Melina Xenos.
The Senior Hockey Team automatically progressed through to regionals, where they went on to compete against two other schools. Winning both games, they progressed through to the state finals. The team played brilliantly, with standout performances from Lila Ancher and Chiara Virtuoso.
Intermediate Sport
In Term 2, students competed in the Inner North District across netball, soccer, badminton, and AFL.
This term they competed in Basketball, Table Tennis, Hockey and Frisbee.
- The Netball A team delivered an excellent performance, winning division and qualifying for the regional round that will be played this term.
- The Intermediate Soccer team played exceptionally well, progressing through to regionals where they won all games in their pool but unfortunately lost their final to Thornbury 4-0
- The Badminton A team competed in regionals and came second in their pool after a great win in division.
- The Intermediate AFL team progressed through to the regional round after defeating all opponents on the day at Division. They then competed admirably in the regional, unfortunately losing to St Helena by 9 points, with exceptional efforts from Maddie Ward, Elli Jones, Laylah Ross, Milly Banfield, Lacey Nicolaci, Rachel Barone and Sara Lopresti.
The Basketball A team one all games and their grand final by a close 2 points. They are now heading off to regionals next term.
Year 8 Sport
Year 8 students achieved impressive results across all sports.
- The Netball A team won all their games and will now progress to the regional round. The team played exceptionally well with great performances from Millie Silver, Alice Martin and Arabella Moon.
- The Soccer A team won in their final against Brunswick, progressing into the regional round.
Year 7 Sport
Year 7 students also achieved excellent results in their interschool sport competitions.
- The Netball A team progressed through to the regional round after a strong performance, going undefeated for the day with standouts from Jules Brooke, Sadie Sharp and Priya Clifford.
- Our Soccer and Badminton teams came runners-up at the division round.
Junior AFL
Our Year 7 and 8 AFL students delivered an outstanding performance at both division and regional levels. The A team going undefeated at division and carried the momentum through regionals to secure a place in the regional final where they narrowly lost by 1 point to Diamond Valley. The team played with fantastic energy and effort with standout performances from Jules Brooke, Stella Bradley, Millie Silver, Alice Martin, Sienna Boulos and Arabella Moon.
Cross Country
Students from all year levels competed at regional and state level in cross country last term. At the state championships, the school had amazing performances overall.
Team Achievements
- 12-13 Girls: 2nd overall
- 14 Girls: 3rd overall
- 15 Girls: 3rd overall
- 17-20 Girls: 3rd Overall
Individual Achievements
- Zara Addicott (Year 11) – 2nd place
- Milana Farfaglia (Year 7) – 2nd place
All Schools Cross Country Championships
MGC Students Milana (Year 7) and Octavia (Year 9) Farfaglia competed in the All-Schools Cross Country Championships on Saturday the 20th of June in Bundoora.
Milana – State Champion by winning the U14 3km race
Octavia – Came 8th in the U16 4km race
Both girls are now off to represent Victoria at the Australian Cross Country Championships which will be held on the Saturday the 22nd of August.
If you see them around, please make sure to give them a huge congratulations and wish them luck in their upcoming race.
Victorian U17 and U19 State Netball Squads Top 50
The top 50 of Victoria’s best netballers in the 17/U and 19/U age groups have been identified by Netball Victoria state team selectors, in preparation for the 2026 National Netball Championships.
Congratulations to the following MGC Students who have been talent identified.

School Sport Victoria Team Vic Teams
The School Sport Australia Championships was held from the 25th to 31st of July where students are selected to represent their state.
Congratulations to the following students who were selected for Team Vic.
- Juliet Brooke (Year 7) – AFL
- Taya Argus (Year 11) - Diving
