VCE Theatre Studies The 39 Steps Performance

Enjoy an evening of theatre featuring our very own VCE Theatre Studies students as they perform The 39 Steps - all welcome!

The 39 Steps is Patrick Barlow’s hysterical stage adaptation of John Buchan’s classic novel and Hitchcock’s hit 1935 spy thriller film. The Theatre Studies class has produced their own adaptation of The 39 Steps.

Set in 1930’s London, the story is a classic portrayal of one man’s flight from wrong accusation through a series of improbable adventures as he is pursued by authorities. The protagonist, Richard Hannay finds himself in the clutches of Anabella Schmidt, who later reveals herself as a spy. She has uncovered a plot called ‘The 39 Steps’, but she is murdered clutching a map of Scotland.

Richard Hannay takes on the adventure, jumping through windows and onto trains as he tries to escape spies and cunning murderers, before finding love. Hannay must solve the mystery of the 39 steps and save his skin before it’s too late.

Year 11 Business Management -                                Yarra Valley Chocolaterie Excursion

The Yarra Valley Chocolate Factory experience was amazing, honestly, one of the best excursions of my life. From beginning to end, it proved to be educational, engaging and most of all, fun. We started the day at Yarra Valley by splitting into two groups to experience 3 different rotations. The first rotation was chocolate tasting, which broadened my understanding of what you could put in chocolate. Have you ever heard of eucalyptus chocolate, cause I have and wouldn’t recommend. But there were highlights like the honeycomb milk chocolate and the polka dots or freckles. The second rotation and by far my favourite was next, where we got to make a chocolate lollipop and decorate it with any treats on the table in front of us! Lastly, we had an educational speech breaking down the business side of things at Yara Valley. Yarra Valley Chocolate Factory was amazing, with plenty of things to learn, explore and eat, and it’s fair to say, I think a lot of us Year 11s lost a fair bit of money at the cash register on the way out! - Chloe R.

Year 12 VCE Food Studies

As part of the Year 12 Unit 3 course, we examined the impact of all forms of media on eating patterns and behaviour. The class recently made a recipe trending on social media, then discussed how the recipe aligns with the Australian Dietary Guidelines.

RECIPE - Big Mac Taco/ Smashed Taco Burger.

VCE Theatre Studies The Birds excursion, Malthouse Theatre

The theatre class had a very fun day going into the city to watch The Birds at the Malthouse Theatre. For our Unit 3 studies, we saw a play adaptation of the horror classic and were all left amazed by the stage, lighting and sound design. With only one actress playing every character, we all left very impressed! We then had lunch and headed back. A great day was had by all!  - Campbell H.

We watched the play The Birds in order to analyse the theatre style of immersive theatre. It was an incredibly unique experience, employing binaural sound effects with the use of headphones and a variety of different lighting effects to fully immerse the audience in the world of the play. The characters were all played by one person, who was really fantastic at portraying each character and their emotions. Overall, the play was a positive experience and I recommend that everybody should go and watch it. - Joshua H.

So far this term, the Year 11 VCE VM students have been on a couple of excursions to: R&I Instrument & Gear CO, and Zenith Interiors, they also held a VM Career Expo in the library where classes from Year 9 and 10 came through to see the displays.
